ACTIVITY DESIGNED FOR BASIC STUDENTS TO PRACTICE ACCURACY OF THE DIFFERENT SOUNDS
MATERIALS NEEDED: 3 x 3 CARDS
This activity helps students distinguish different sounds at the beginning (fat, cat), the middle (lift, list) or the end of the words (have, had). Students are given a list of word pairs to read and practice it. Once pronunciation is clear, group them and provide them with the cards where the words are previously written. The teacher reads aloud only one of the word pairs and students should show the correct one. To make this activity more dynamic, the teacher can use the board to have students run and paste the correct one there.
ACTIVITY DESIGNED FOR BASIC OR BEGINNER STUDENTS TO PRACTICE THE SOUNDS OF WORDS IN CONTEXT.
MATERIALS NEEDED: A PARAGRAPH OR AN ARTICLE FROM A TEXTBOOK
Using the same text or article, white out some of the words randomly. Those words could be intentionally -chosen if you want your students to practice something specifically, for example a grammar tense or any vocabulary. Hand out students the worksheet with the missing words and then read aloud the complete article or paragraph while students listen and fill in the gaps. Use a natural pace and repeat the activity three times, finally check the dictation.
