A verb is a word used to describe a physical action, a mental action, or a state of being.

A transitive verb is an action verb that has an object to receive that action:

                         I made pizza

Transitive

An intransitive verb is a verb that does not have an object to receive that action:

                         My mother cried

 Intransitive

These verbs form their past and past participle by adding -Ed or -d at the end:

                    Work ----  Worked

Regular

These verbs do not form their past and past participle with the usual rule, they either change or keep the same form:

        Go -- Went                  Hit -- Hit.

 

Irregular

It is a verb that connects a subject with an adjective or a noun that describes or identifies the subject, it is not an action: 

                  Valentina is a student
